Introducing the Ruger SFAR 5617, a true Small-Frame Autoloading Rifle that seamlessly blends the compact dimensions of a traditional 5.56-caliber modern sporting rifle with the powerful ballistics of the 7.62 NATO / .308 Win. chambering. Meticulously engineered for performance and durability, the SFAR offers a host of features that make it stand out in the realm of small-frame autoloading rifles.

The heart of the SFAR lies in its precision-crafted bolt and barrel extensions, CNC-machined from high-strength super alloy steel that surpasses traditional C158 bolts in performance. Tapered lug geometry reinforces the breech, providing robust support for larger short-action cartridges, combining the compact form factor of a traditional MSR with the ballistic advantages of .308 Winchester.

The bolt carrier assembly boasts a chrome-lined 8620 steel bolt carrier and a nitride-processed gas key staked securely in place. Enhancing longevity, the titanium firing pin features a DLC coating for extended service life. The bolt includes dual ejectors and an optimized extractor, ensuring positive extraction and efficient ejection through the enlarged ejection port.

The 4140 chrome-moly steel barrel is cold hammer-forged and incorporates ultra-precise 5R rifling. The heavy-profile barrel strikes a balance between maneuverability and stability, with a black nitride finish for exceptional accuracy, longevity, and easy maintenance. Managing recoil is the Ruger 2-port Boomer muzzle brake, featuring large perpendicular surfaces to redirect gas and reduce felt recoil. The 5/8″-24 muzzle threads remain compatible with various brakes, flash hiders, and suppressors.

The free-floated 15″ aluminum handguard is equipped with Magpul M-LOK accessory attachment slots along the 3:00, 6:00, and 9:00 positions, complemented by a full-length Picatinny top rail. Quick Disconnect (QD) sling swivel sockets at the muzzle end allow comfortable carry with a two-point sling.

Ensuring optimal function across a broad range of ammunition, the rifle-length gas system features a 0.750″ 4-position rotary-regulator gas block. Adjustment is made easy with the included on-board 3/16″ ball-end wrench.

The Ruger SFAR 5617 boasts the Ruger Elite 452 trigger, offering a smooth, crisp 4.5-pound 2-stage trigger pull. A full-strength hammer spring and lightweight hammer contribute to fast lock times and consistent primer ignition.

The upper receiver, crafted from a 7075-T6 hard-coat anodized aluminum forging, includes a brass deflector, forward assist, and a full-length Picatinny rail. The lower receiver features a generously flared magazine well for easy magazine insertion, completing the SFAR’s commitment to precision, reliability, and adaptability. Whether for tactical applications, precision shooting, or general use, the Ruger SFAR 5617 sets a new standard in small-frame autoloading rifles.
